I have established that I am Colombian (and, despite a few flaws here and there in my country, I love it!), and that Medellín my hometown. In this page I'll share some of my heritage and show you a few eph-made videos about the country and city. I promise there'll be more to follow!
The Beginning - Chaparral and Bogotá
Although I was raised in Antioquia, I was not born there. I was born in a small town in Tolima called Chaparral. Interestingly enough, such a small town has been home to three Colombian Presidents (so, if I ever decide to run for office, you already know where that comes from!). My family had to move there due to our internal conflict. Dad was transferred to Chaparral in 1973 to join ongoing operations against the guerrillas in that part of the country.
I was born in May of 1974; by November of that year, dad was transferred to Bogotá. We lived there for four years until dad requested for another transfer due to my ongoing health issues and was relocated back to Medellín by the end of 1978, where I lived until I came to the U.S. for my graduate studies. I returned to Colombia in 2010 and have been in Medellín ever since, with occasional travels to different parts of the country.
Colombia in Images
Anything I can say about Colombia won't do it justice. I'll let the images and sounds of my land speak in my stead. Check out the links below to some of Polina's and my pictures.
