Current Appointments

I am at present a full-time Associate Professor at UPB-Medellin. My primary appointment is in the School of Education and Pedagogy Graduate Program, specifically in our doctoral program, where I teach courses on critical theory and qualitative research. I am also mentoring three doctoral students (plus another PhD candidate in Philosophy). My secondary appointment is in the BA in English-Spanish Education. I teach the course on Methods and Approaches to the Teaching of English and I direct all the senior theses from the undergraduate researchers at the Literacies in Second Languages Project.
Previous work at the School of Education and Pedagogy involved my participation in the MA in Learning and Teaching Processes in Second Languages (Maestría en Procesos de Aprendizaje y Enseñanza de Segundas Lenguas) or ML2, where I was also the project leader for the ML2 program creation (August 2011-December 2012) and its first program coordinator (January 2013-June 2016) and taught seminars on literacies and research. As a thesis director in ML2, 12 of my students already finished their degree and 1 is close to defending. I have also served as thesis director in two of our master's programs in education.
Most of my current research happens through the Literacies in Second Languages Project, a research lab I chair. There, I am working and doing research with preservice teachers and graduate students interested in issues of second language literacies. I am also a researcher in the Pedagogies and Didactics of Knowledge research group, where I coordinate the Second Language Studies research line.
